The Incredible Cinco de Mayo Themed Demo

The second cooking demonstration of the quarter took place on Friday May 18th from 5:00 pm and ended around 7:00 pm. The event was once again held at The Market near the Glen Mor Housing Community at the University of California Riverside. The theme for this demo was Mexican culture and featured quesadillas filled with spinach, mushroom, and avocado. All ingredients that were used can be found at any grocery store at a low and affordable price. Making quesadillas can be as simple as microwaving a tortilla filled with cheese, but with the addition of some healthier ingredients to the dish we can make it a filling and nutritious meal. The addition of these ingredients not only make quesadillas tastier, but are also much better for your health in the long run!

Avocados are a good source of monounsaturated fat that can decrease the risk of breast cancer, lower the risk of heart disease, and reduce belly fat. In addition, mushrooms are rich in selenium which can strengthen teeth, hair and nails, while also serving as an excellent antioxidant. Last but not least, spinach is a good source of protein and vitamins including vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E, all of which provide numerous health advantages such as keeping our eyes healthy and helping us get a better night’s sleep.
